NetSenses, Inc. was founded in 1999 by John Vaughan to create a company dedicated full-time to Web Site development and Internet consulting. This founding followed several years of successful Web development work for nonprofit organizations, when demand for these services commercially was obviously growing and growing.
Mr. Vaughan's background in commercial real estate development provided the ideal foundation from which to build a service oriented firm to meet the needs of companies wanting a presence on the Internet. After previously constructing office buildings and shopping centers in which to conduct business, he then turned to providing places in cyber space for businesses. These parallel processes require the same understanding of how companies do business and what works best for each.
This natural transition was made easier for Mr. Vaughan given that his technical background as an engineer (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) is coupled with the MBA (Old Dominion University) he earned, concentrating in marketing. This blend of disciplines gives NetSenses the appropriate resources for understanding the working environment of the Internet with the specific business needs of a company wanting to be there.
Choosing Williamsburg for the firm's location gives easy reach to the major market areas of Tidewater and Richmond, Virginia. NetSenses has many clients outside the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well.
NetSenses has an established track record of providing valuable Web site and Internet services to small and medium sized businesses in Eastern Virginia. We are eager to meet new opportunities for the development or redevelopment of Web sites for other businesses.
In the summer of 2006, NetSenses was joined by Jim Harney. At the time Jim joined NetSenses, he had recently graduated from ECPI College of Technology where he graduated summa cum laude with an Associates degree in Computer Science.
Jim is a native of Northern Virginia (McLean) where he graduated from Langley High School in 1983. Following his graduation, he entered James Madison University where he earned his Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance in May of 1987. He began working at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg during the summers while a college student at JMU. Upon graduation, Jim continued working at the theme park and worked in a variety of positions other than musician including band captain, stage manager, audio technician and finally Senior Area Supervisor for Entertainment. In the spring of 2004, Jim felt the desire to move on from Busch Gardens and try a new challenge. Having taken two web design classes at Thomas Nelson Community College, he enrolled in EPCI College of Technology to pursue an Associate’s degree Computer Science in Web Development.
Throughout Jim’s career, his love for music has always remained in the forefront. He continues to work as a professional musician all across Virginia and North Carolina. He is the co-leader of the Williamsburg Classic Swing Orchestra, and is music director for Hot House and Limelight where he plays several instruments including saxophone, flute, clarinet, electric bass, and keyboards. In addition to these groups, Jim occasionally plays with other groups and touring shows when his schedule permits. Jim also occasionally does freelance arranging and recording work.
At NetSenses, Jim works closely with John on designing sites, graphic design, and does much of the database programming on our custom sites.
